TankTrouble Android Beta Ended

In just under a week a staggering number of people have taken the time to fill out the form and sign up as beta testers of TankTrouble for Android! It is of course incredibly exciting that so many people are eager to get hold of the app.

When we set out we had the expectation of forming a smallish group of 20-30 people to help test the app and it is amazing that more than quadruple that number have signed up! We do, however, now feel that the number of testers is at a sufficient level and so we will not be accepting further applications. If you missed out though, don’t be too disheartened as we will likely run further betas in the future.

    I would really like to help out with the app. I think a mobile app for Tank Trouble is a great idea!

  2. Well congrats to all those selected to be beta testers!

    Now tustvold, are you always going to be a one-man company or will you ever think of getting more staff for SubterraneanSoftware? Things could be for buisness maybe [Getting web applications and turning them to apps could be a great buisness plan] or just another programmer/graphics designer, or whatever you need? I would like too see more of your games that you will make in future because honestly your really great!

      Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately I can’t really answer your question very well… I don’t really have a set plan for Subterranean Software and am playing it somewhat by ear. I write applications primarily for the enjoyment of writing them and so it is actually an exception to the norm for me to actually finish and release something. I have a number of half finished projects I’ve worked on and simply lost interest in at some point in development. The future of Subterranean Software therefore largely depends on whether I find a game idea for which my enthusiasm sticks. Of course how successful TankTrouble is will also have a significant impact on the future of Subterranean Software.

      • Well it seems that you have stuck to an idea that started out as a web game. Maybe you could have a buisness were you turn flash games into apps. Im sure you could make money from doing this, because i know people like to turn their hobbies into something which pays. You could definatly speak to web/flash developers to do so just you did with TT, paid or unpaid.

        Also, since I can see your an experienced dev, would you be up for possibly a sort of ‘internship’ (unpaid of course) for a beginner at game design?

          I’m about to head off to university so don’t really want to get into discussions with the IP owners of online games where I may be contractually obliged to do work. But I may do so after I have settled in.

          As for me being an expert, whilst I would love to say I was – I am most definitely not. In fact I have had no formal programming training aside from 4-5 years of reading online resources. As such you are probably better off seeking an internship from a more established company… (I’ve never done an internship so can’t give recommendations)

            The best advice I can give is to decide on a small project that interests you and just work on it. When you get stuck, google a solution and you’ll almost certainly find one. There are also a number of good tutorials out there that you could give a go, although I never really liked following them as I found them too constraining.

      Really? You don’t happen to have a link? I haven’t done anything in particular to get listed, so can’t really give any tips… I guess I just got lucky.

          We plan to sell the app for £0.99 (or your regional equivalent). Whilst there have been discussions regarding a LITE version, there currently aren’t any plans for one.

          • You think maybe on the first day for just 24 hrs after release it will be free? You may lose some money, but with those people the word can spread easily and long term help you gain more money?

            Google Play doesn’t let you make an app free and then change it back to a paid app. Making an app free is a permanent change that cannot be reversed. This is largely to stop people using it to abuse the ranking systems. So unfortunately what you describe is not possible.

      Online multiplayer is planned and will likely be incorporated into the first major update.

          The multiplayer as it currently stands in development uses servers in the USA, Europe, Japan and Singapore and you are matched with players on the same region server as you. Options may be added later for you to explicitly choose your region server, but as it stands it currently uses the one with the lowest latency. So in answer to your question it is effectively multiplayer with devices all around the world, with the caveat that it will try to match you with someone in your region in order to give you the best experience – nobody likes lag.
